Hello, I'm Hoang
Building Autonomy
On Wheels.
I build autonomy on wheels, from AMRs to self-driving cars. I own the stack from sensors to planning/control to deployment.
Featured Projects
Overcooked MARL
Overcooked Multi-Agent Reinforcement Learning environment using Multi-Agent PPO algorithm.
System Identification with Deep Learning + MPC
System identification from data using deep learning and MPC controller. This clip shows the car travel at 20km/h.

Work Experience
Robotics Software Engineer
01/2026 - Present- Built MCAP-based sensor logging for on-robot debugging, replay, and field-data analysis across the robot sensor stack
- Developed a proof of concept backend for robot delivery system
- Developed an on-robot Qt/QML operator GUI for robot status, field operation, and deployment workflows
- Developed a direction-aware routing system on multiple undirected graphs for an autonomous towing robot
Robotics Software Team Lead
06/2024 - 01/2026- Led the development of the robotics software stack for a new production healthcare AMR
- Designed and implemented a 2D localization algorithm from scratch with Ceres Solver and Kalman filter, then tuned and tested it at customer site
- Developed a task manager to translate and dispatch fleet manager commands to the appropriate robot controllers
- Developed path-following controllers for AMR, enabling smooth navigation and obstacle avoidance in real-time
- Built simulation environments to test and validate robot behavior before real-world deployment
- Implemented and field-deployed a real-time 3D localization system that fused ICP pose estimates with wheel odometry using a Kalman filter for an outdoor delivery robot
- Convert part of the 3D localization module to CUDA C++, achieving a 20% speedup in point cloud processing
- Pointcloud clustering and line extraction for obstacle avoidance using CGAL library
Senior Engineer - Planning & Control
08/2022 - 06/2024- Profiled, optimized and enhanced the autonomous vehicle's planner to reliably execute in sub 20ms
- Designed and implemented a multi-layer cost structure for flexible routing
- Designed and implemented an algorithm to dynamically adjust the search graph to efficiently avoid obstacles
- Conducted simulation and real-vehicle testing to validate routing and navigation algorithms
Senior Robotics Software Engineer
09/2019 - 08/2022- Led the development of the outdoor last-mile delivery robot
- Led the development of the robotics software stack of the outdoor security robot
- Led the development of a healthcare disinfection device
Senior Robotics Software Engineer
08/2018 - 08/2019- Optimized and enhanced ROS navigation stack to improve performance in tight spaces
- Integrated open-source ML model for real-time face detection and recognition
- Redesigned robot-GUI communication using Protocol Buffers over WebSockets, reducing message overhead and improving data-transfer efficiency
Senior Software Engineer
05/2015 - 08/2018- Developed a proprietary LIN auto-addressing algorithm and successfully deployed it for customers
- Engineered an ultra-compact embedded firmware for ultrasonic parking sensor, slashing memory footprint to 4 KB, 50-75% smaller than the typical 8-16 KB baseline
